Spring is FINALLY upon us! It's time to work out in the yard, open the windows, and enjoy springtime before the heat of summer starts.
I haven't made a wreath in a while and I currently have no spring decor... so I knew it was time for a change. I saw a beautiful wreath on Etsy that sparked my interest (See the inspiration here, and Etsy shop here). The typical price for a wreath on any given Etsy shop will run you about $50 or more! When Hobby Lobby runs sales for floral items, you can make the same type wreath for under $20!
You will need:
1 Grapevine wreath
1 Spool burlap ribbon (you wont use much of it, it can be the wire or non-wire type)
1-2 Stems of flowers of your choice (I chose a type that could easily be bent into the shape of a wreath, I used two stems for best coverage)
1 Wooden Letter of your choice
Floral wire
Craft paint of your choice (I did coral)
The first step will be painting the wooden letter. Paint the front and the sides, it's not necessary to paint the back. Let dry.
Next you begin attaching the floral stems to the wreath. Start on the side where you will end up putting the burlap ribbon. For the first attachment I did a few rotations around the wreath for extra security. The long part of the stem is still attached, it will be cut after the ribbon is attached. Continue with the same basic process around the entire wreath.
I separated the two strands while I secured them. On the bottom strand I would use the floral wire to pin down the all the stems. On the top strand I selected certain pieces to pin down in order to keep from too much floral wire being exposed.
This is the thick strand of floral wire on the bottom floral strand. Work your way around the remainder of the wreath.
Attach the bow using twine and floral wire. The floral wire can be pushed through the back of the bow, making it easy to secure to the wreath. After that you can determine how much of the bottom stem you need to cut off.
Tah-Dah! You can search the internet for easy bow tutorials. You can use a method such as this one. Additionally I wrapped extra burlap around the middle of the bow.
It's attached by both twine and floral wire.
Before I attached the letter I sprayed it with a matte protecting spray because the wreath is going to be outside. Let dry. I used a glue gun to attach some floral wire onto the back of the letter, then attached it to the wreath.
UPDATE: The letter fell off about a week after I put the wreath up. I used fishing wire to attach it this time and it seems to be more secure!
Done!! I wouldn't say it's quite as pretty as the one I saw online, BUT I think it looks really cute! The price, and making it myself also really endear me to this wreath :)
